Step 2 - Why Hard Work, Doesn't Work.
Most Americans work longer to pay for government entitlement services (120 days) than they do for food, clothing, and housing combined (105 days). Since 1986 more of an employee's paycheck went to government services than basic living expenses.
World famous investor Warren Buffett once compiled a data sheet of his office employees (mostly clerks and secretaries) and he had each of them make a fraction. The numerator was the total they paid in taxes and the denominator was their taxable income. It turned out that -even with his immense income- Buffett paid far less in taxes as a fraction of his income than his employees.
The capitalist society we live in rewards you for being rich, why go against the grain? Popular culture depicts the rich as being snobbish, greedy, or better yet: evil. Just look at how the wealthy are portrayed in movies and television. Subconsciously we change our perception of the rich and avoid joining them despite the desire to become wealthy. When did rich become a dirty word? It started as early as the industrial age when the first modern entrepreneurs (Ford, Carnegie, etc.) took off and created a new elite aside from the aristocracy. Victorian books like Charles Dickins' Christmas Carol are the earliest examples of how culture began to mold the stereotypical view of the rich.
If you strive to become rich, would you turn into a modern Ebenezer Scrooge? No, of course not. But your subconscious mind might fear that prospect. Until you become aware of the beliefs you harbor in that powerful part of your brain, you will subconsciously sabotage yourself. This is the main reason we meet up and play this game: to change your mindset!

It was a fun and insightful game. I look forward to the next meeting. It was also a very nice atmosphere. Tiemen was welcoming and helped us learn the game quickly.
Great game everyone! We had one 101 table and a 202 table going with brand new and experienced players in attendance. The theme was centered on Robert's Cashflow Quadrant -made popular by its namesake and my personal favorite among his book series. With the Cashflow Game we teach people that it is necessary to understand the different types of income and how they affect your quest to become financially independent.
Next month: "Is your home an asset?"
